B-SIDE is an exhibition I designed and curated with some of Singapore’s rising creatives. It took reference from the “B-sides” of music tracks to look at the alternative “would be” practices of artists should they deviate completely from their usual artistic practice.
WHAT WAS UP?

B-Side was my little vanity project which I roped my friends along. I got my galpal, Natalie Sim, to do the copy-editing as that’s her strength.
I also roped in six of my artist friends, Sean Cham, Rifqi Amirul (RKISN), Domi Chia, Odelia Tang, Michelle Lim, and Tamaryn Kong, to create works that they always wanted to create and had no chance to because it was not in-line with their practice or personality.

I branded the entire exhibition to look like it was related to music and took the ridges of a vinyl and repeated it as a motif.
One key issue in spatial planning that we did not foresee was that some of the walls were not plywood and some where concrete. It was harder to drill through a concrete wall, so we had to re-arrange the artworks to ensure a good flow that the artworks stood out individually but were part of the same show.

My favourite part of the show was the wall-text. It was unconventional and lo-fi but looked really hi-fi. I planned it to be easy on the eye for the viewers to read. Most wall-text were flat against the wall and did not let viewers learn more about the artwork. Text–is a very important part of the artistic process.

To further augment the experience, I wanted to program activities, which includes an artist talk and a Singapore music talk.
